Chic and exclusive, Panarea is the smallest but most fashionable of the Aeolian Islands, attracting international jet-setters. Its traffic free streets lined with bars, cafes, restaurants and boutiques make it an appealing walking and shopping destination.
Doubtless Panarea is the place for nightlife on the Aeolian islands. The terrace of the “Hotel Raya” is the place to go for an aperitif, and its disco keeps Panarea awake until dawn.
The port and main settlement of Panaera is “San Pietro”.
Sights include the prehistoric village dating back to the 14th century BC, the rocky beach of “Spiaggia Fumarola”, the sandy beach of “Spiaggetta Zimmari” and the gorgeous little cove of “Cala Junco”.
There are also five islets off Panarea, some of them are no more than protruding rocks but offer good swimming opportunities.
Divers can also explore the wreck of a 19th century English ship.
